Welcome to Planet Earth Stores ~ earth-friendly online shopping
Planet Earth Stores is an innovative idea developed by founders Steve & Jan Rose of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. While shopping for earth-friendly gifts, they discovered that they had to go to dozens of websites to buy a dozen gifts. Why not combine various environmentally friendly gifts and products on ONE site to make it easy and affordable to shop?
Steve & Jan chose to use an earth, sky and water color palette for the eStore, as it reminded them of the US Virgin Islands — St. Croix in particular, as that is where they were married. They fell in love with the island's peaceful charm and natural beauty.
Steve & Jan are avid animal lovers and protectors, and are strongly involved in the rescue and survival of the beautiful sea turtles in St. Croix — so they felt it very fitting that the sea turtle should become an icon in the branding of their eStore venture. (Scroll down the page for more information on the sea turtle logo.)
Also among the many causes Steve & Jan have taken on is the fight to save the wild Mustangs back in the states. Their home backs up to the wild foothills outside of Lake Tahoe, where a herd of mustangs are regular visitors.
As well, Steve & Jan share a life-long concern for the environment, conserving energy, and reducing impact on the planet. When they built their dream home back in 2007, they put their beliefs into practice. The grow their own vegetables, compost, catch rain water and use gray water in the garden and trees around their home. They recycle plastic, glass and paper and use organic products and earth-friendly cleaners, soaps and detergents. They use CFL and LED light bulbs throughout their home, and have plans to go all-solar in the very near future.
They also use recycled paper and ink cartridges for their businesses, including recycled paper for Planet Earth Stores’ business cards and print materials.
Their goal in creating Planet Earth Stores is to offer a variety of earth-friendly items at affordable prices.
Planet Earth Stores is like a GREEN Sharper Image store (no affiliation), offering items you may never have heard of, but HAVE to have now that you found them! This is a store for everyone to have fun and buy really cool stuff for yourself, your friends, and your relatives — everyone you know!
Planet Earth Stores is truly a one-stop shopping experience for earth-friendly products. If you can’t find it on our website, just tell us what you want — if it's on Planet Earth we will find it for you.
Every Day is Earth Day!

PLANET EARTH STORES LOGO

We wanted a logo that would most idealize the planet and the "green" and in our search for a unique image — an image easily understood across cultures image — and quickly settled on the sea turtle to carry our planet on it's back.
The following explanation of turtle symbolism and lore, found on Squidoo website pages, clearly summed it up for us:
The Turtle is an Ancient Symbol, Representing Order, Creation, Endurance, Strength, Stability, Longevity, Fertility, and a Gentle Innocence. The Turtle also Offers Protection, Good Fortune, and Can Bring Forth Happiness and Good Omens.
One of four Chinese sacred animals (among The Dragon, The Phoenix, and The Unicorn), the mythical Turtle is a creature of two elements; land and sea, as such the Turtle reflects an ability to adapt and flourish in any environment.
In Asian myth the Turtle represents universal order and is thought to have created the universe from it's body: It's shell is symbolic of the heavens, it's body, symbolic of the earth and it's undershell represents the underworld.
In American Indian culture, the Turtle represents the wisdom of the ancient ones and is respected for its strength and individuality. Those who bear the symbol of the Turtle carry the responsibility of caring for, protecting, and nurturing others.
The Turtle is considered to be the oldest, most sacred symbol of the Anishinabe and Haudenosaunee people. They believed that North America was created on the back of a turtle. Legend says that Father Sky's wife fell through a hole in the sky, and to keep her from drowning, little Muskrat managed to bring up a handful of soil from the bottom of the ocean; she placed it on Turtle's wide back and the land immediately began to grow, forming North America.
